Looking to purchase a new(ish) car: AWD, suv or wagon, good reliability, and decent on gas. Been looking at the CRV/RAV4/CX-5/SantaFeSports (used) for around $15K, usually 3-6 years old with 50k+ miles.
But then I found a new 2019 VW Golf
Sportwagen S (AWD w/ 6 spd) for 21K - would it be worth it to fork up the 6K for a new VW? I’d be worried about the reliability, but at least there’d be a warranty as well.
Any info would be helpful!

So far our 2018 Sportwagen has been really good to us. I am a huge fan of the car and my wife (primary driver) loves it.
I don’t find it to be too easy on gas, but it isn’t bad. We have the TSI/4motion/DSG

T he 2018 and 2019 VW’s h ave a 6yr/72k mile warranty (the 2020 does not, it’s only 4 yr/50k mile).
Go with a new 2019 or try and find a used 2018, the warranty is transferable .
Just double check the warranty applies to your exact model.

All positives with my 2019 Alltrack. I’d like some more power, but I’ll get it via APR. Also dat 6 year warranty should put your mind at ease.

You can find a used 2016/17/18 CPO AWD Volvo V60 with under 30 ,000 miles for under $ 25k all day long with some at about $20k . Just another car to consider.

Wish they had a somewhat more powerful engine option. 170HP isn’t terrible for a 3300lb car, but it’s not especially zippy either.
I’d at least look at TourX if you are buying new, I’ve seen new ones listed starting around $ 20k , which would be more bang for your buck if you can actually get them anywhere near that cheap.

Carmax had a suspiciously cheap V60 Polestar (I think around $27 000), and I was damn tempted. It was only going to be like $150 to get it shipped to Boston too, but ultimately I decided I wanted to get my job situation sorted before switching cars.

I’m not too worried about zippi-ness - I mean, I’m going from a 2001 CRV, so hell, a shopping cart feels zippy.
I’ll definitely take a look at the TourX

If I were going to buy another V60, I would probably look for a 6 cylinder Polestar or R Design. The 4 cylinder is fine and I don’t mind it, but the 6 is so much more refined feeling. I test drove an R design before I bout my car and loved it, but my better judgement stepped in and the cost vs return argument didn’t work for me. Though I sometimes wish I had just done it.
